Vence is a small French inland town on the French Riviera, in the hills of the Alpes Maritimes department, between Nice and Antibes. An attractive old town surrounded by a ring of hills, it has a splendid view down to the Mediterranean over Antibes and Cagnes sur Mer. Being protected from the cold front by the hills on the northern side of the town, Vence has a temperate climate the winter months being especially mild. (more…)

Although to small to have an airport, getting to Vence isn’t that difficult. Whether by plane, train or car the town of Vence is never too far.

History and civilization

The area where Vence stands nowadays shows signs of occupation dating back to ancient times. And ancient really refers to inhabited caves in the Paleolithic and Neolithic. Some of them seem to have served further on as shelter for shepherds during the Bronze and Iron Ages.

Vence – city of water

With a name reminding of the famed and beautiful Venice, Vence shares the affinity of the former for water. The many stone fountains in Vence have their true origin in the springs and rivers of the region: Malvan, Cagne and Lubiane, and their importance to the Vençois is obvious by the queues they make just to fill their bottles.
